Siddhartha chooses to learn about himself instead of learning about a belief system. Siddhartha knows nothing about himself because she"s been trying to destroy his innermost self. New decision: he will no longer escape siddhartha. Samanas believe everything is an illusion and they must find the truth. Siddhartha realizes the world is not an illusion and he embraces it. It is hard for him to remember the samana simple life when he is rich. When he realizes he loves his son, he finally understand kamala"s life. Teachings of buddha are described as being a boat that carries one from samsara to nirvana (link to the river). When on her death bed, kamala says seeing him is as good as seeing god. Siddhartha tries showing his son love but it doesn"t work and the boy runs away. If the son loved him back, siddhartha would have been attached & happy on earth.
