Gender comparison research: there"s gender bias in research process, questionable generalizability, ideological bias. Cognitive abilities that are different: general intelligence. There are no differences on tests of general intelligence. Higher people"s iq are higher nonconformity of gender roles. No gender differences in learning: verbal ability. Brownmiller: little girls excel in verbal skills. Research tends to show that females outperform on verbal tasks. Gender accounts for only 1% of variation. Men"s average is 500 and women"s 510 not statistically significant. Girls begin to talk earlier than boys. Gender differences in verbal performance declining: because of today"s better research. There was a difference- but overall effect size was . 1 so not practically significant even though it"s statistically significant: spatial ability. Understanding, perceiving and manipulating shapes and figures. Difference between genders is declining: mathematical ability. Males outperform on math tasks; but differences accounts for only 1 to 5% of variance. Gender differences in math are greater for white americans than for minorities.
