Defininition: ldac (2002) pt 1: disorders that may affect acquisition, organization, retention, understanding or use of verbal or non verbal information mathematical tasks, visual spatial tasks, tactile tasks, at least average ability for thinking/reasoning. Impairments in processes related to perceiving, thinking, remembering, learning. Reduces a complex decision to a single score. Iq scores are unreliable and are not strong predictor of reading ability. Useless concept in early grades: response to intervention or treatment. Tier 1: all students get the same thing. Tier 2: they pick out the students who may need a little more help. Tier 3: the students who need more help from here move on to receive it. Formative assessment directly measures a student"s behaviour. The teacher would assess classroom behaviours and taken frequently and at different times of the day. Prevalence: approximately 4% of students aged 8 to 11 in canada.
