Clinical interview: it isn"t like a normal conversation. It is in a sense a conversation with a purpose. Directed content to achieve a specific purpose. Occurs at a definite time and place. There is an expectation and you have to be very careful about what you do as a service provider. Have to set aside your judgement about what they have done. Interviewer must be aware of the clients voice intonations, rate of speech, as well as non-verbal messages such as facial expression, posture, and gestures. Although it is sometimes used as the sole method of assessment. It is the most widely used clinical assessment method. Convey to interviewee that you understand their feelings and attitudes. Use open ended questions to extract more information. Use language that is understandable and not offensive. Avoid excessive talking about personal experiences during the interview. Allow the interviewee to use silence for reflection (silence can be very powerful)
