Data collected in 2012 shows that approximately 9 million people aged 12 and older use smokeless tobacco and evidence shows that this number is growing. Teenage attitudes and practice survey , each day more than 2,200 teenagers, try smokeless tobacco for the first time and of those 2,200 about 830 become regular users. Approximately 90% of people who have mouth cancer are tobacco users. Smokeless tobacco, or chewing tobacco is related to many health risks. Studies have shown that approximately 7% to 27% of chronic chewers have gum recession and bone loss all around their teeth. Unfortunately receding gums and bone loss aren"t the only concerns when using smokeless tobacco. Using smokeless tobacco can lead to multiple types of cancer. Individuals who use smokeless tobacco have an 80% higher chance of getting oral cancer as well as 60% higher chance of being diagnosed with pancreatic and esophageal cancer.
