Examine relationship between substance misuse and ipv victimization. Ipv victimization = risk factor for future substance misuse disorders. Substance misuse leads to ipv: psychopharmacological effects: opioids and tranquilizers associated with ipv victimization. Socioeconomic status: low socioeconomic status characteristic of female drug users. Gender-related factors: the female drug users as sexually promiscuous (cid:862)crack whore(cid:863) Cocaine use linked to multiple sexual partners, greater sex-risk behaviour, and sex exchanges for money and/or drugs. Indirect factors: childhood abuse: contributes to physical and mental health in adulthood. Histories of childhood abuse common among female drug users. Childhood sexual abuse is a significant risk factor for ipv victimization among female drug users.
