Typical female offender: abused/traumatized as child and/or as adult, suffers from internalizing mental health problems (depression, anxiety, self harming behaviour, also has traditional criminogenic needs, lower risk to re-offend than male counterpart particularly in terms of violence. The nature of female-perpetrated violence: rare but when it occurs, relational in nature (against someone they know well, more often motivated by intense emotions (anger, jealousy, revenge) rather than instrumental reasons (money) A word on filicide (killing own child: filicide is committed equally by males and females, but as age of victim decreases, likelihood that mother is perp of offence increases, reasons: mental illness, single/young/low income.
