PSYC 3302 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Cortisol, Life Satisfaction, Gallup (Company)
Document Summary
Materialism is bad for subjecive wellbeing while money (i. e. not obsessing over it) has been shown to increase wellbeing. Those who spent it on another were happier than those who spent it on themselves, and amount didn"t mater. They thought would be beter and they thought it would be beter spending it on themselves (which turned out to be opposite). Sharing/giving has similar efects in young children were happier when they gave their own treat (versus the experimenters treat) to the monkey. Happier than giving the experimenters treat, and even happier than when they got the treats in the irst place. Efects have been observed in much of the world; not just in wealthy countries like canada e. g. india, uganda, south africa. Overall, correlaion tends to be posiive, and in lots of diferent places. Some physiological correlates reward" parts of brain, also corisol and shame (when not giving). When thinking about money, we may actually savour other things less.
