Takes traits and divides them into 2 types of dimensions. These dimensions are meant to address different kinds of traits in different ways. Traits related to interpersonal, temperament, type of character we are, our possessions, attitudes, etc . This gets at it from those two types of dimensions. Starts with the lexical approach : looks at what we typically use in a specific way. Looks at things like dominances on one dimension and submissiveness to dominance. When looking at status and we see dominance and cold heartedness are not related, but dominance and arrogance may share some relation bc they are closer (look at. Traits that fall closer to love will not necessarily be close to dominance. Gives idea of what would constitute interpersonal behaviour. What traits may come out depending on interpersonal relations. Five broad factors: surgency or extraversion, agreeable. Started with lexical approach and then moved to the statistical approach. Tribal people were given the questionnaire as well.
