Researchers need to know this because they are creating and distributing scale, make sure it works. Make sure it measures personality, with similar ratings. Measures degree to which test measures what it is supposed too. Face validity: the extent in which the scale measures what it is supposed to measure. Predicative or criterion: requires theoretical background of researcher. Personality scale that measures happiness, collect data and decide if it captures happiness. I need to correlate scale with happiness the construct. If someone who scores high on scale is happy = good scale. Convergent: evaluating scale, does this correlate with other measures on same construct. Construct theoretical: type of validity needs to be concerned about. Does it correlate with everything, does it discriminant negative things.
