Functional value of emotions: fear leads to avoiding danger, happiness strengthens relationships, disgust keeps ppl away from things that make them ill. Basic emotions: universal & consist of subjective feeling, physiological change, & overt behaviour: joy, anger, surprise, interest, disgust, sadness, & fear.
