Early development is related to later development, but not perfectly. The continuity-versus-discontinuity issue is really about the relatedness of development. Neither are fully correct, continuity from earlier to later is not perfect, but can happen. Development is always jointly influenced by heredity and environment. Nature and nurture interact to shape child"s development. Scientists found that children shape the way they are parented. It"s the way children interpret their experiences that shapes their development. Both the parent and the child have influence on each other. A child"s unique characteristics may cause him or her to have some experiences and not others. Continuity: early development is related to later development, but not perfectly. Nature and nurture: development is always jointly influenced by heredity and environment. We can relate nature vs nurture to biological vs learning perspectives. Environmental influences in different domains in children"s lives produce many connections. Research usually begins by deciding how to measure the topic or behaviour of interest.
