No evidence that capacity of sensory store or ltm changes significantly after first few months. Capacity of working memory: ability to perform mental operations and recall. Chi (1978) compared graduate students and 10 year old chess champs. Memory task for chess pieces, 10 year olds outperformed grad students. Memory spend for digits, grad students outperformed 10 year olds: ease of item identification. Elimination of excess neurons (use it or lose it)
