Document Summary
Also referred to as a risk or problem behaviour. Self-presentation (allows you to control the way people perceive who you are based off of a first impression) Common predictive factors (i. e. : someone who is not financially stable, doesn"t have post-secondary education, etc. is more likely to smoke) When an individual persists in use of alcohol or other drugs despite problems related to use of the substance, substance dependence may be diagnosed. Compulsive and repetitive use may result in tolerance to the effect of the drug and withdrawal symptoms when use is reduced or stopped. When the user has repeatedly self-administered an agent resulting in tolerance, withdrawal, and compulsive behaviour. Harm reduction: an approach that focuses on the risks and consequences of substance use rather than on the drug itself. Harm reduction sets more realistic goals and is implemented through community based programs: Offers disposable injection kit, sterile tools, medical support. Reduces rates of transfer of infection disease.
