What do social psychologists do: focuses on how we affect others and how they affect us, social relationships and social world. Cognitions what do you think about: focus on the effects of others and situations (environments) on these dimensions. Social psychology methodology: researchers usually start with a theory and a question is tested based on that theory, exploratory research (research not yet complete) starts with a question. Ways to assess research: observational (videos footage, person-as-observer, surveys (self-report, online, interviews, smartphone check-ins, more cost efficient than any other design, behaviour measures (e. g. , choice of hot sauce, altering the experimenter, psychological measures (fmri, eeg, skin conductivity, hormones) Statistical procedure for determining whether there is a relationship between two variables. Designed to identify what goes with what in nature. Not designed to identify causal relationships: advantage: get to see how things naturally progress together. 4: positive relation (+1) as one variable goes up, the other goes up as well.
