Think of a: college cheerleader, ceo, nurse. Attitude about particular group: affective, behavioural, cognitive. Prejudice: attitude or feeling toward individual based solely on that individual"s membership in certain group: this attitude = evaluative judgment (liking or disliking, racism: prejudiced attitudes toward particular race. Discrimination: unequal treatment of diff ppl based on groups or categories to which they belong: common forms: racism, sexism, homophobia, religious discrimination, ageism. Stereotyping: beliefs associating groups of ppl w/ certain traits, beliefs about characteristics of group of ppl as whole, good or bad; schema or framework. Mostly depict outgroups as inferior or having negative traits. Most prejudices come from external characteristics that are readily visible: ex. Ppl can be prejudiced toward others based on beliefs, religion, or sexual orientation. Socially acceptable prejudices: (i. e. , that ppl will admit to) Obesity, atheists, gay men (lesbians too, but less so) Theory: prejudice surfacing in less direct ways whenever it"s safe, socially acceptable, or easy to rationalize.
