Come on, conform, you know you want to: 2 types of social influence: normative influence: going along w/ crowd to be liked or accepted, informational influence: going along w/ crowd b/c you believe they"re more knowledgeable than you. We have fundamental need to belong & as such, we will behave in ways that will increase acceptance: e. g. , asch"s study of conformity. Do we ever go against crowd: giving right answer decreased conformity a bit, giving diff answer, extreme error decrease conformity dramatically. Sometimes, we go along w/ crowd b/c we believe they know better than we do. We will follow others even in instances where we see it isn"t a great idea. 2 factors tend to contribute to whether ppl are influenced (informational influence) Ambiguous situations not sure how to behave in this situation.
