Affect: automatic classification of emotions into good (positive) or bad (negative) Mood: feeling or state that"s not associated w/ event. Automatic affect: quick response, usually interpretation of good or bad, occurring outside of consciousness, automatic response. Conscious emotion: experience of unified feeling state, such as happiness, anger, or sadness, conscious reaction. Emotions aren"t 1 dimensional have mental & physical aspects. 2-d model of suggests every emotion can vary according to: pleasantness (mental), arousal (physiological) # of theories have been developed to explain link b/w emotion & arousal: james lange, cannon bard, schachter singer. Prior to experience of emotions, we 1st process stimuli, have physiological response to that stimuli, & then experience emotion based on interpretation of physiological response. Emotional stimulus -> physiological arousal -> experienced emotion.
