Researchers submit apa formatted documents for publication. Copy-editors" modify the document to make it extra pretty and to fit the journals specific format. End result is that published articles are roughly" apa in style but also have major differences from what we submit for publication. The primary purpose of apa formatting rules is for submitting research articles for publication. Recall: the sections of a research article: abstract, Essays, research proposals, bibliographies, etc. have different layouts (and not the typical sections of a research article). Error: students trying to make other writing documents fit the sections of a research article l. When elements are included apa determines how they look. No additional returns/enters or other spacing elements. Paragraphs should be at least 3 or 4 sentences long minimum! What each section heading should look like is dependent on how many heading levels there are. Can break up lengthy sections (4 or more pages) with a subheading .
