Document Summary

In using the 3 types of operationalization is how we measure: self-report: a questionnaire. People who know the participant will also fill out the questionnaire for the participant: observational: observing behaviours. An outsider looking and recording: physiological: physical measurements of a patient, ex. Use the physiological approach, and use a lie detector, brain scans. Observational: see how people interact and express their feelings. feel: when we are measuring, we use one of 4 scales, three of which are quantitative (assessing data through numbers) the fourth is categorical, there are categories. There are options available: ordinal, when we have values, but the values assign an order. A score on a test, blood alcohol level: ratio, where the zero means an absence of, intervals are equal. Temperature, never an absence of temperature even at 0 degrees: eye colour=categorical, parental marital status=categorical, seating order in an auditorium=interval, degree of pain felt=ordinal. Reliability: reliability is about consistency and consistent results, test-retest reliability.
