PSYC 2001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Pocket Cube, Repeated Measures Design, Factorial Experiment
Document Summary
Provides more information about the relationship than a two level design. Allows the possibility of determining if a curvilinear relationship exists as opposed to a strictly linear relationship. Bower"s (cid:523)1(cid:891)(cid:890)1(cid:524) experiment is a good example of a complex design in which two variables, mood during learning and mood during recall, were manipulated words learned when sad were best recalled when sad. Practical reasons: easier to test several variables within the same experiment because control more consistent than in several separate experiments. Theoretical reasons: resolving contradictions between separate that manipulated the same variables. Testing theories: the effect of two or more variables simultaneously acting on the same individual is only testable within a complex design. Main effect: the overall effect of an independent variable by itself (without consideration of the effect of the other variable). Looking at the main effect of drug dosage by itself and then also looking at the main effect of social support by itself.
