They basically fall into two categories: typical neuroleptics. Dopamine is related to some of the symptoms associated with schizophrenia. They are more selective: these are very serious drugs. There is a long list of side effects that are associated with them. Such as: tardive dyskinesia (loss of motor function), akathisia (inability to be motionless), parkinsonism (associated with severe jittering), sexual impotence, hypotension (low blood pressure), seizures, and weight gain: drugs controversy. When we look at the use of drugs in a therapeutic context, it is easier to a medical practitioners to prescribe drugs than it is to find them a psychiatrist. When we look at the cost, companies are spending more on the ads for their products than they are on research: electroconvulsive therapy. Has a patient anesthetized, and then a shock is administered to both temples for usually less than a second.
