PSYC 1002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Groupthink, Stereotype, Observational Learning
Document Summary
Chapter 13 part 3: we try to persuade others to do things. That process of persuasion is based on several different aspects: there are attributes to keep in mind, the source, who is trying to persuade you. If the source is trustworthy and powerful, it will help persuade you. If the source is not credible and unattractive, the likelihood of being persuaded goes down: the message has an impact on how likely it is that you will be persuaded of something. How is the message getting to us: the receiver is you, or whoever is being persuaded. If the audience is younger, they are easier to persuade: when we as receivers have strong attitudes about something, it is harder to change our minds, there are recognized ways of persuasion, the foot in the door. Someone trying to get you to agree to something small, then asking you for something bigger: bait and switch.
