PSYC 1001 Lecture 8: CHAPTER 8-MEMORY
Document Summary
If we had no memory, we wouldn"t be able to know our values, being in war, it could intrude and affect the person"s life and behaviors. An analogy used in psychology, while typing we are putting the information in the computer. There are several ways to encode info via: automatic processing: we put no conscious effort into memorizing. For example, you remember what you ate last night without noticing: effortful processing: we are going to put the time, energy, effort into getting the information and acquiring it in. 2. 1 rehearsal: with this we repeat the information constantly consciously: ebbinghaus the first to study memory scientifically. In order to do that he needed some material he was never exposed to. He created nonsense syllables: das- baz- xir he studied and rehearsed them and kept a record how many times he has to rehearse to memorize this.
