Different patterns of electrical activity are associated with different states of consciousness. Nonconscious: processes that occur in the body (autonomic ns) Preconscious: outside of conscious awareness but can be brought into consciousness on demand (thinking about reading week after asing) Unconscious: (freud talks about this) experiences, ideas and motives that are threatening, and removed from consciousness. (ex: driving home and you turn a different was and you don"t know why) How do they differ: coma allows people to live after severe injuries.
