Human rights in an Era of Globalization
What is globalization?
It is a problematic concept, it is a plural concept and a concept that indicate a process,
something that is ongoing and people have to figure out a way to how to use it.
- Definition: process of increasing interconnectedness among societies such that events
in one part of the world increasingly have affected on people and societies far away-
(Baylis, 2017).
- Globalizations is not new, but the term its such came about in the 60s to hold mostly
economic growth the world went through during that time. what is new is the scale of
globalization, it is an increased level of interconnectedness.
Intensification of relations (Giddens, 2000)
He talks about the shrinkage of the world.
The relations are intensified are immediate,
increased of international mobility.
Integration of world economy
The flow if income capital, the increase of trade you can see economic changes on
daily basis.
Interdependence between countries.
Accelerated pace of change
The pace of change in the past decades is crazy,
The demographic terms have doubled than how it was previously.
Environmental changes.
Deepening of connection local/ global
Even at a local level, you still have of global awareness. Because of constant new, you
have the interpretation of local and global at the same time mostly because of the internet.
In political terms globalization means relative denationalization, because power is not
about the state anymore, but on a transnational level, it is a challenge to national
sovereignty because states have to deal with power shifting from their side.

Liberal (optimistic) view: arguments

Realist/ critical (pessimistic) view: arguments
- Defended by alter globalization movement, NGOs, social movements
How does globalization impact specific aspects of political and social life?

There is a massive imbalance between the rich and the poor, between first nations and
third nations. Even thought, the poorest is less poor. And the argument even if the poor
gets even poorer and the rich get richer, it is about how to find a better way to share the
benefit.
