Document Summary

Psci2701b class 11 nov 26 2013 (slides from last week) Building trust in this case is an issue. Every question you ask is a risk you are taking: person can become negative, angry, etc. depending on what you ask. You can try to remain neutral, but the interviewee is not stupid the interviewer clearly has some opinions. Building trust: how do you get someone who is taking part in illegal activities to trust you, being too neutral can be a problem at some point must engage the person. Language: be sure the language you are using doesn"t have baggage. E. g. , calling a terrorists colleagues suicide bombers. Interviewer effect: perhaps better for a young woman to interview sexual assault victims than a 60 year old man. Know your topic as much as possible: follow-up questions and cross-referenced information. Gender issues/challenges: e. g. , may be harder to interview a terrorist group as a woman.
