Real life connection: if we talk about politics its important to know that the way things are it is not the way things have to be: things change; called reification. But socrates adds in, if they could they would kill the philosopher who tried to bring them up to the light if the prisoners were able to catch him. Education and testing of philosophers takes 15 years; Philosopher kings are 50 years old when they have been selected as the best in everyway; (both in deed and knowledge); they seek only the good in itself. They spend their time contemplating the realm of the ideas and sake; the best in all the highest things; But are compelled each in turn to use it as a pattern for ordering city, private men and themselves for the rest of their lives. Philosopher king drudges back to politics and rules for the city"s.
