PHYS 1007 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Euclidean Vector, Net Force, Hydrostatics
Document Summary
Condiions for an (extended) body to be in equilibrium. The vector sum of all forces acing on the body=0. In 2d, this gives us 2 equaions to work with: Second condiion is that the sum of the torques=0: if working in 2d, this gives one equaion. If the net force on a body is zero,, then you can calculate torque at any point. Select the point where most forces act to reduce variables. Angular momentum: l=rp, compare with linear p=mv. Mom: l/ t = ext when =0, l is constant. Conservaion of magnitude and direcion: iiwi = ifwf li=lf. *pressure measured in any direcion around a point in a staionary luid, is the same. *pressure also varies with depth; pressure at h (depth below surface) depends on the weight of luid above it. Weight = w = mg = pvg here p is the density rho measured in kg/m3.
