PHYS 1003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Contact Force, Net Force, Normal Force
Document Summary
Forces can be classified into two types: When an object is in contact with another object and a force is exerted. A force is exerted at a distance (ie. gravity) Purpose: to identify all forces which act on the object. Draw vectors from the centre of mass representing these forces. If the net force is zero, then the object is in equilibrium. The net force exerted on them is zero. If the forces are two-dimensional, then the forces in x must be in equilibrium and the forces in y must be in equilibrium too. If the net force is zero, then the object must be either: ** if the forces are not directed along the principle axis, we use components to work with them. It is exerted by a solid surface which the object is adjacent to. It prevents an object from passing through another solid object.
