Is the mind the brain: there are many different versions of the view that the mind can be reduced to the brain or is the brain, generally, this view is called physicalism/materialism. What is a mind: a mind is a soul, mind as a part of the body (an emergent property, a mind is a brain. It seems odd that a mental substance (a thinking, non-extended thing) can interact with a material substance (non-thinking, extended thing) Occasionalism is a philosophical theory about causation which says that created substances cannot be efficient causes of events. Instead, all events are taken to be caused directly by god.
