First animal exposed to stressor and receives shock according to its response. Second animal gets shocked if the first animal answers/reacts incorrectly to the stressor. Animals learn that their behaviour and outcomes are irrelevant to each other: animal falls into depressive state, helpless feeling leading to depression. This determines if we will fall into a depression. How you interpret events in your life in and the power you have over these events. When things happen, it is my ability to get out of these situations. My destiny is dependant on external factors outside of my control. I"m not good at math but not good at anything else. Helplessness may just be a symptom of depression.
