[2] monday january 16th 2017 : lecture #2: evolution, genes and environmental. Genome is not stable; can be changed or modified (e. g. epigenetics) The environment plays an important role in modifying the brain. Review: r-docs (looking at particular set of systems and neurobiology underlying each system) - e. g. negative valence - feeling stressed, sad, neglected; threat detection. Information integrated from sensory modalities - e. g. memory; provides advantage to survival - need to be able to sense danger. ; all of these systems interact with each other. Dopamine - reward nts; but also when stressed da is released in large quantities - exposure to stressful events as well as reward. Charles darwin - theory of natural selection; proposed that new species came about by nature selecting successful traits and passing these traits on to offspring; successful traits passed on, non-successful traits would die off; environment shaped this.
