Primarily instrumental with meaning communicated through musical sounds and gestures. Can be long and contain many different moods. A genre, or type, of music for orchestra, divided into several pieces called movements . Typically, classical symphonies have 4 movements, tempos: fast, slow, moderate, and fast. Each movement has its own tempo and mood. Aside from symphonies, it also plays concertos, overtures, and dance suites. A short, distinctive musical figure that can stand by itself. A short unit (in biology it is like an amino acid!) A genre of music in which there are soloists playing against the full orchestra to demonstrate competition and virtuosity.
