Harm and the granting of victimhood is contingent on how such harms are articulated and under what political, legal and social conditions they are voiced. Role of capitalism in producing human suffering vs role of victim in his own suffering. Focused on measuring the amount of victimization, the development of typologies of victimization, explanations of why some people are more prone to victimization, and the relationship between criminal and victim. Victim precipitation: victim contributed to their victimization in some capacity. 1)identi cation of victims who contribute to their own victimization: analysis of interpersonal crimes of violence, identi cation of factors for why its not random, analyss of crime as it is conventionally understood. 3 ways cv challenges pv: contestation over ontological and epistemological basis of victimization. Ontology (pv) objective vs epistemology (cv) subjective: state and corporate victimization. Pv ignores state crime while cv acknowledges its role in different forms of harm.
