In 2011-2012 federal, provincial and territorial spent 2. 3 billion on criminal justice. Very small sl ice of the gdp (1. 1%) is spent on criminal justice. This spending on a per capita basis has been s teadily increasing, gov"t spending has gone up by 22%. Crime rates are steadily decreasing thou gh, spending more money to deal with less crime. Not focused on proactive approaches to deal w ith crime, most of the spending is a reaction. No correlation between the money spent on crime a nd the amount of crime.
