Dealing with crime victims by looking at victimization surveys revealed that there is a significant amount of unreported crime. 25% of canadians have been a victim of crime at some point (in most cases, they are very minor offences) There is a belief that we need to deal with victimization by punishment, there is a stigma that they go hand in hand . Many people believe that the victim wants the offender to be punished. There have been several victim adversary groups created that state they represent the best interests and the beliefs of a certain victim/group. Crime victims are unfortunately seen as the consumer of the criminal justice system with the attitude being the customer is always right. They want the consumer to be satisfied which legitimizes the crime control approach to dealing with victimization.
