Killed a lot of gay men for decades, human remains found at a landscaping house. He"s accused of 8 accounts of murder. The actus reus of which he is accused: The actus reus is 8 counts of murder. The act of killing 8 people; the crown has to prove 8 separate counts of killing. The actus reus of first-degree murder is different from the second and different for manslaughter. The case doesn"t look accidental because its 8 people instead of 1 accidental murder (the issue isn"t manslaughter in this case) It"s the job of the crown to prove a person guilty (you are innocent until proven guilty). It"s the job of the crown to prove all of the elements of the offense. At the threshold they have to prove it on is beyond a reasonable doubt. There must not be another reasonable explanation to prove this happened. The civil jury was tasked to provide if it"s more likely or not.
