If found guilty, they are sent to sentencing. Punishment is the consequence that the accused receives. Sentencing is the process that leads to the punishment. At a sentencing hearing, witnesses will be called, and the judge will hear evidence from both the accused as well as from the crown. When the judge hears from the accused or the crown it is a serious situation. Victim impact statements- a way for victims to show how the crime has impacted them or their lives.
