Understand law as a social relation: how it circulates in society. Law frequently seen as winning/losing: how do we make crown see it as a matter of justice instead of winning. Law deals with everything we interact with. Law gives identity (we may have different religions, looks, etc. but we have the same rights and laws: nationality and rights are connected. Fix poverty, racism, etc. by using laws. Claims laws make people good, but this isn"t true. Law represents ideals of what we want society to be. What law looks like differs across space and time. Informal mechanisms as method of control: e. g. shaming. Tensions between law and society: law and sociology claim to do same thing.
