A broad range of skills is essential. Technology is more important than ever- how we communicate is mediated by technology. Legacy media"s (tv, broadcast, newspapers) business model is not journalism- classified ads in papers were cash cow. Newspapers transitioning into new era- trying to reach the new generation, but new business model hasn"t been worked out- current business model still supports old way. Huge changes in just a few years. But a journalist"s objective hasn"t changed- still committed to informing people about matters of public interest, advocating for change, treating people fairly, writing the truth as unbiased as possible- fundamentals the same. Must be used appropriately- not automatically working well for the purpose you want to achieve. Don"t develop digital myopia - getting focused on using tech and can"t see the big picture. Journalists will have to work hard to stay current- be curious and employ journalistic skills.
