Document Summary

Propaganda- a form of communication that attempts to achieve a response that furthers the intent of the propagandist. Persuasion-interactive and attempts to satisfy the needs of both persuader and persuadee- more of a discussion. Propaganda, in most neutral sense, means to disseminate or promote particular ideas. Art of mass persuasion is embedded in contemporary society. We tell the truth, other side is propaganda. Lies, deceit, distortion, brainwashing, manipulation, big brother. Like pornography we know it when we see it . Seeks to promote the interests of those who contrive it, rather than to benefit those to whom it is addressed . Management of opinions and attitudes by the direct manipulation of social suggestion/playing with people"s minds rather than altering the environmental conditions. About power, not spreading faith- helps you gain power over the people by tricking them. Pre-propaganda - getting people ready to receive the full blown propaganda/event. Suppresses individual"s adequately informed, rational, reflective judgment.
