(pre- Travelling occurred through hokule"a, ships that were uniquely adapted for travel on the atlantic ocean and it was their job to find new islands. Groups would use islands for 5-10 years for food and other resources until they use up the resources. (resources exhaustion) They developed sophisticated exploration methods through stars and observing waves (feeling waves with feet). Empires are based on power-disparity (colonizer and colonized)
