Independence of the italian city-states from centralized authority. Gave a rise to new social and cultural values in which have endured to today. There are city states and then two major powers known as the holy roman. The nobility are able to make deals and accommodations with the centralized monarchies if france, england, and spain but no longer in italy. Banks no longer had to transfer actual money but used pieces of paper stating the credits. The guilds were the center of the economic activity.
