Document Summary

Earth material: fine(very small) grained, when particle size are 80% or more <2mm in size. Debris material: course(bigger) grained, 20-80% larger then 2mm in size. Freefall( or just fall):slope is very steep & material are falling freely in the air. Slide: moderate slope where the material is sliding along the slope. Flow: material is very mixed with water & behaving as a fluid, such as mud. Very to extremely fast speed, is called a avalanche For motion to happen gf parallel to surface must be greater then the resisting strength. Attempts to prevent motion & slow down moving objects. Friction: force that opposes motion between two objects that are touching one another, as roughness of surface increases so does friction. Smoother the surface less friction, rougher the surface more friction. Angle of repose: maximum angle of a stable slope as determined by the friction, cohesion and particle shape.
