CRCJ 3002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Ethnomethodology, Participant Observation, Ethnography
Document Summary
Practices, experiences, discourses, common sense, etc. of social actors and institutions. Providing an interpretation of the world we live in. Listening and focusing on meanings, practices and interactions of elements of sociality that cannot be measured in numbers. Can know about reality without reflecting on the very gesture of knowing, without questioning how it is we want to know. Being conscious of the cognitions that we know when doing research. Distance from pre-notions, being non judgemental and using value free research. Strive to be non judgemental but it doesn"t mean that you can do research that is not contaminated by your political beliefs or values. Apolitical objects are subjects/topics that are more likely to be looked at subjectively. Impossible to conduct research without taking one side or another. Not everyone is given the same ability to have their voices heard or have influence on the research.
