CRCJ 3001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Mental Chronometry, Testability, Falsifiability
Document Summary
Research quesion: the quesion in which you are trying to ind the answer for. Hypothesis: a statement designed to answer your research quesion, and is created before the study is completed. An educated guess based on what you think is going to occur within your studies. It is an iniial explanaion or a tentaive (unproven) proposiion. Your hypothesis must be subject to empirical tesing so that it is more than mere hunches. Type 1 error: when you ind something signiicant when it shouldn"t be. (ex: staing that your drug will work when it doesn"t. ) Not as broad as a theory: what we expect to occur if your theory is actually accurate, can have many hypotheses generated out of one theory. Your independent variable: the variable that you are able to manipulate, who you are comparing. Your dependent variable: the outcome which you are atemping to measure in a quanitaive manner.
