Epidemiological approach: epidemiology= study of incidence and distribution of diseases. Introduction of statistical methods in the sciences of the social. Crime vs climate, alcohol consumption & education in order to develop strategies of policing. Predictive policing = software used to direct patrol activities, orienting, strategies. Not about studying who criminals are but rather a path of behaviours. Official crime data (police reported) most believe that this is not an official representation of crime but rather data about police behaviour. Ex: a crime that did take place but does not get reported into the official statistics. Self report surveys: to take a huge amount of people and survey them if they have commited any nasty things in the last few years (are you a criminal or not?) First happened in the 1970"s when it was revealed that criminals are not always stupid, poor or lonely.
