All have origins of study, meaning they choose to focus on a specific aspect of criminology. Some think the crim should accompany more than what it does. They go back to social movements, which had influence on future (purity movement). Edwin sutherland: defined criminology as: study of the making of laws, the breaking of laws, and of society"s reaction to the breaking of laws. There is also visual/critical criminology which may play a role in the influence of crim. There are lots of diversity when trying to define criminology. All these disciplines have different objectives of study within crim. We do not discover crime, we create it. 1879 paul topinard: french anthropologist, used the term criminologie. 1885 raffaele garofalo: italian law professor, student of lombrosso, coined term criminologia , both used the term in reference to the study of punishment and the treatment of criminals, started the classical school of criminological thought.
