•How is power exercised through communication?
-Personal communication and mediated communication
•How do forms of communication impact our senses and perception?
-Ex. contemporary media applications or social networks: Primary impacts
(FOMO)
-Social media accounts allow you to tell people the stuff you;re doing also same
platform gives you persistence sense that you’re missing out on something
-Ex. Instagram and food
•Taken up by Innis and McLuhan
-Groups of scholars based in Toronto, not really based in a school.
-Toronto school contains 5 or 6 academics from range of different fields
-All interested in questions having to do with communication, thinking about the impact
of technology and how technology changes society
-One concept to keep in mind: All forms of communication take place in SPACE and
TIME.

•Ex. Lecture taking place in specific place during a specific time
-Not insignificant that Innis and McLuhan that many of the questions have to do with
